This damn conference
So it is a week until Catch the Wave. Our first meeting was in July 2007! I had no idea it would pan out like this. I took the Financial Chair to not have to coordinate too much. The way it has panned out, I have been the main leader with the help of the VP. So the reason for the blog. I think it is pretty cool that I will bring 400-500 kids together to hear how to get where they want to go. They will pick from 28 workshops and attend 7, hear 3 keynote speakers and a music therapist that will all in some way aided them in getting into health professional school. They will also get the chance to talk to over 35 different schools to learn more about specific programs. It is also a time for them to socialize. I have worked to get the dean from UCSF, USC, UCSD, AZCOM, and St. Augustine. Not to mention the other speakers who are current professionals and students from all disciplines of medicine.
The other cool addition is that I have written a book called "How to Guide to Getting Into Medical School" which will be given out at the conference, AMSA's Medical Student Panel that I will be sitting on a week after, and to other pre health clubs at USD, South Western CC, and other members of AMSA around the nation.
My hope for the students is to learn more about applying, and gain more motivation to work hard to make their dreams come true.
This past year I have felt the need to leave a legacy behind at SDSU. It ihas been a struggle to see where my true legacy is. As I see this conference coming together. I have found it. I have been an advocate for my peers! by being the main leader of this conference I have help hundreds of students gain an edge on going to health professional school.
It was hard during times when I wanted to hangout with Ms. Pink and say "Screw that damn conference" or other things that I have sacrificed for this position. DAMN it I am proud to have done such a great job serving my peers.
